ZMI Core Shield is a chemical product developed to reduce the core losses in electric motor cores. The product offers an alternative to costly, and time consuming re-stacks. While ZMI cannot repair physically damaged cores it has proven highly effective in bringing core losses down to acceptable levels. Compared to re-stacking or replacing laminations, ZMI Core Shield is inexpensive and fast.
After the remanufacturing process, will my rotor be as “good as new?” In some cases, better. The manufacturing process is akin to an assembly line. Time is money, so the faster the manufacturing the more profit. The need for speed in production can compromise the product. For example, factory cast aluminum rotors often have voids in the casting. These voids not only make balancing difficult but create bad connections on the rings and poor performance. In addition rotor bars from the factory are often constructed to be loose in the slot to assist with ease of installation. Our remanufactured aluminum rotors are never cast, but extruded eliminating the possibility of voids and loose bars.
At New Core, your replacement laminations can be laser cut or stamped on a punch press. While the laser offers a quick setup and production start, speed is not everything. When your apparatus was manufactured, the laminations in it were produced on a punch press. At New Core we have acquired those same machines, retrofitted them with 21st century technology, and now manufacture 99% of our laminations the way the factory did, one slot at a time. Obviously, setup is slower, but we believe accuracy is more important than speed.
With three EDM (Electrical Discharge Machines) our tool and die makers build punch and die sets on site every day. Thousands of die sets sit on our shelves, ready for reuse.
FAQ My aluminum rotor has an odd shaped bar. Can you duplicate that? Absolutely! In fact, our tool and die makers will manufacture a bar die exactly like the one in your rotor. Then, with our custom manufactured extruder, we will extrude aluminum bars just for your rotor, so it will perform as well or better than the day it was manufactured.
Copper bar rotors usually have bars which are commercially available. When the copper bar shape is unusual, our sister company, Jasper Electric operates a multi million dollar copper extruder to custom make your bars.
I want to stack my own laminations for a stator or rotor. Can you help? We are happy to manufacture to your specifications loose laminations. We will even offer technical help, if needed, regarding stacking. We are here to help.
